[Temple of Apollo at Delphi]

Hello, salut, aloha, hola, Guten Tag, salvete, &c. to all reading this! You've managed to stumble upon yet another friends only journal with all the clichès included. Nevertheless, you may read on to find out more about its owner. I do not intend to make myself look better or worse by this info, and the reader may interpret the words as he or she sees fit. Happy reading!

To start off, my name is Mercedes. My friends simply tend to call me Merf. Although I am sixteen years old, I've been informed that I am mature and wise beyond my years. (Strange, isn't it?) I'm currently going into my junior year of high school, and I'm so looking forward to the work. As with many teenagers, I've been going through different emotions, situations, changes, &c. Luckily for me and everyone else, I'm not one of those plain angsty teenagers who cry and whine about nothing, nor am I someone who thinks breaking a nail or smudging make-up is a crisis. As for anything else basic...well, I don't know.

If someone really wants to know me, all he or she must do is know my intentions in academics. ;) After high school, I intend to graduate with various honours and awards, though I couldn't care less about going for valedictorian. Upon graduation, I'll hopefully be accepted into the likes of the University of Oxford or Duke University or blah blah blah. At the moment, I'm hoping to double major (joint degree, whatever one calls it) in English and Philosophy while minoring in Classical Studies/Classics/&c. and Psychology (or some other such combination). I'm planning on becoming a university professor and perhaps also become a curator or some type of librarian. I'd also love to write, though I doubt I will ever write significantly for anything but this academic world. We shall see.

Going on to less boring things, I love to read. (Did I say less boring?) I'm often reading at least one book all the time, and I read whatever genre or topic or author interests me. As it stands, my two favourite books are Alice's Adventures in Wonderland and Through the Looking-Glass by Lewis Carroll (Charles Lutwidge Dodgson). Other books I quite favour include the following: Timeline and Jurassic Park by Michael Crichton, Ovid's Metamorphoses, Catullus' Complete Poems, the Harry Potter series by J K Rowling, Digital Fortress by Dan Brown, and Lemony Snicket's A Series of Unfortunate Events series.

Movies? I watch those. I have a few favourites, I suppose. They include Disney's Alice in Wonderland and Mulan as well as the Lord of the Rings trilogy, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy, the Star Wars series, and the Harry Potter movies. ...And that's all I have to say on that subject.

I don't watch television very often, but I like watching a few shows. At the moment, my huge favourite is definitely Avatar: the Last Airbender. I also enjoy watching Teen Titans, One Piece, and Zatch Bell. ...That's about it, really.

This used to have a big, macho "warning" section, but I don't feel I need all that so much. The only "warning" you'll get includes the following: I'm extremely capricornian/saturnine, I have Mercury in Aquarius, and they're accompanied by a unique Mars in Aries flair. For those who don't know astrology, read it like this: I don't care about you or anyone else as I only care about myself and my money, I talk a lot, and I have a temper. Of course, there's some humanity in me somewhere...)

That about sums me up...or, rather, as much as I can in this space. If you've read this far, kudos to you. -Hands out gold stars- Now that you're finished...well, have a jolly day and don't eat cyanide! Farewell!

'In some ways, you know, people that don't exist, are much nicer than people that do'. - Lewis Carroll

'Know thyself? If I knew myself, I'd run away!' - Johann Wolfgang von Goethe

'I am so clever that sometimes I don't understand a single word of what I am saying'. - Oscar Wilde

'Alice' - Shel Silverstein
She drank from a bottle called DRINK ME
and up she grew so tall.
She ate from a plate called TASTE ME
and down she shrank so small.
And so she changed, while other folks
Never tried nothin' at all.
